Overview

The GD Series is a bidirectional semi-lug slurry knife gate valve with a one-piece “monoblock” cast body. A stainless steel gate moves between two screwed-down rubber sleeves, which form a protected, full-bore flow path. There are no steps or pockets in the line, so the medium passes freely through the valve.

This design is ideal for very loaded products with solids – such as mining slurries, mud and water with stones – as well as other abrasive fluids in chemical and wastewater plants. The integrated body gasket means no separate flange joint is required, simplifying installation and reducing leak paths.

Utilisation

The GD slurry valve is designed for:

  • Very loaded mining slurries and concentrate lines
  • Suspended solids in process and return water
  • Abrasive chemical and industrial effluents
  • Slurry handling and treatment systems

In dry-solids gravity applications, the valve should be installed with the arrow on the body pointing opposite to the product flow.

Technical Specifications

Sizes & Working Pressure

  • Standard manufacturing sizes: DN50 – DN1500
  • DN50 – DN150: 16 bar
  • DN200 – DN600: 10 bar
  • DN700 – DN900: 8 bar
  • DN1000 – DN1200: 6 bar

Working pressures are valid in both directions. Higher pressures or additional sizes are available on request.

Design & Connection

  • Bidirectional semi-lug slurry knife gate valve
  • Monoblock cast body for rigidity and strength
  • Full continuous bore – no constrictions in the pipe
  • Face-to-face dimensions according to CMO Valves standards
  • Flange drilling: EN 1092 PN10 and ASME B16.5 Class 150
  • Other drilling standards (PN6, PN16, PN25, JIS, BS) on request

Body, Gate & Sleeves

  • Body: monoblock cast iron (GJS) or stainless steel options
  • Gate: stainless steel (AISI 304 / 316), machined and polished
  • Two screwed-down rubber sleeves forming a push-through seat
  • Standard sleeve materials: natural rubber, polyurethane, EPDM, Nitrile, FKM
  • Seat material selected according to medium, abrasion and temperature

Sleeve & Sealing Design

  • Rubber sleeves are compressed between flanges and body to ensure tight sealing.
  • Flow is fully enclosed by the sleeves, protecting the metal body from direct wear.
  • When open, the sleeves form a smooth, round bore that keeps velocity profile stable.
  • When closing, the gate pushes cleanly through the sleeves to achieve bubble-tight shut-off.
  • Sleeves can be replaced when worn, restoring valve performance without changing the body.

Actuation & Accessories

  • Handwheel (rising or non-rising stem)
  • Gearbox for low-effort operation on larger diameters
  • Pneumatic, electric or hydraulic actuators
  • Limit switches and position transmitters
  • Solenoid valves and control cabinets
  • Stem extensions, supports and locking devices

Applications in South Africa & Africa

The GD Series slurry knife gate valve is engineered for heavy-duty African conditions where high solids loading, abrasion and reliability are critical. It is widely used in:

Mining & Minerals

Ore slurry pipelines, tailings lines, cyclone feed, mill discharge and thickener underflow on gold, platinum, coal and base metal operations across the continent.

Chemical & Cement

Abrasive and corrosive slurries in chemical plants, cement mills and related bulk materials handling where a full-bore isolation valve is required.

Pulp, Paper & Wastewater

Pulp and paper stock lines with heavy fibres, industrial sewage treatment, slurry treatment systems and loaded effluent streams in municipal plants.
